ARTIST BIO

Painting for me is an exploration of not only the dynamics of colours and texture but the ability to express feellings and emotions, those of the current moment and also those from our memories and past experiences.

I began painting about 7 years ago and my art practice has become my passion.  A life of varying creative working roles and pursuits have all contributed to my creative toolbox.

I paint intuitively using a variety of mediums from acrylics and inks to oils and oil pigment sticks.  Each painting begins differently with multiple layers applied and sometimes removed to reveal the memories of the colours left behind, building texture and character as the work progresses.

I am inspired and awed by the world around me, I especially love the little glimpses through the cracks, tiny details that might often be overlooked, the shadows, the light ever shifting and changing.  In a way, that childlike awe for everything around me.

I want my art to prompt discussion based on the idea that what we see on the surface is not all there is that matters.

Although I have no formally recognised art education, I have attended many varied short courses both online and in person over the years that have focused on various methods of application and artistics styles.  I very much enjoy the learning process.
