ARTIST NOTES: Rooted deep in the earth yet reaching into an expansive sky, River Red Gum captures the essence of quiet resilience in the Australian landscape. The broad, open composition draws the viewer’s eye upward, where shifting clouds and soft light create a moment of atmospheric drama. Below, the gum stands in quiet authority — weathered, luminous, and alive with texture. This painting is a meditation on space and presence, where land meets sky and stillness holds its own kind of power.

ARTIST BIO

I am a painter of light.

I believe that the best and purest medium for capturing light is watercolour. Watercolour produces images like no other medium. It is tricky and ephemeral and demands dedication and perserverance.

I try to capture scenes of light and shadow that tell stories and/or evoke deep and primal emotions within people.

One of my collectors wrote to me and said, "Part of what I was saying about your paintings, and I understand it might sound a bit mystical, but some artists have the ability to pierce the boundary between the temporal and the divine and give us glimpses of the bounty of beauty that is our Creator's. And you exercise that gift, and give me that little glimpse as I ponder your paintings....which is a simple thing,  but very cool and wonderful."

I am an active member of the Victorian Arttists Society (VAS), the Watercolour Society of Victoria (WSV) and the Ringwood Art Society (RAS)

I have received various awards including a recent commendation from the "International Watercolour Masters"
